Description

The Committee was established by the Court of Governors on 10 January 1817 'for the purpose of examining witnesses and collecting information on the question of the expediency of a chaplain being appointed at Bethlem Hospital, with directions to report to the Court'. Its report was printed by H Bryder at Bridewell Hospital at the end of 1817.

Papers and correspondence collected by Bethlem Chaplain Committee in the course of considering the appointment of a chaplain at Bethlem Royal Hospital, including many later transcribed and included in their printed report. Includes a report by Edward Thomas Monro, Bethlem physician, printed in 1819. A report from Brislington House, Bristol, includes an engraving of the exterior of Brislington House. An undated report by Rev Henry Budd, Bridewell chaplain, on the history of Bridewell Hospital, and some correspondence dated 1831, appears to be unrelated to the work of the committee.
